Johnson County Government’s Financial Management and Administration Department is seeking a Benefits & Wellness Specialist to support employee benefits, advance wellness initiatives, and help deliver an exceptional employee experience. This position will remain open until filled.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Serve as the primary contact for employee benefit and wellness inquiries, providing guidance on health, dental, vision, spending accounts, life insurance, disability, and retirement programs. Develop clear communications to address common questions and support employee understanding.
    • Manage benefit enrollment, qualifying life event changes, open enrollment processes, and benefit continuation for employees on leave. Ensure timely collection and accuracy of required documentation.
    • Support development and delivery of wellness programs aligned with County wellness strategy, including partnerships with local providers, fitness initiatives, and employee education events.
    • Provide coaching to employees and managers as a subject matter expert in benefit administration and maintain standard operating procedures for assigned areas.
    • Perform HRIS responsibilities for Oracle Advanced Benefits (OAB), including processing complex benefit transactions, troubleshooting system issues, coordinating with technical teams, testing system changes, and generating benefit reports.
    • Assist with annual open enrollment, review employee elections, and oversee benefit course setup. Provide guidance to Operations Technician to ensure accurate data entry.
    • Lead benefit and wellness communication efforts, including orientations, open enrollment presentations, benefit roadshows, and creation of employee‑facing materials. Collaborate with design partners and brokers to develop communication tools and annual wellness communication plans.
    • Coordinate with third‑party wellness vendors, resolve eligibility discrepancies, audit vendor reports, support wellness events, and manage incentives and reporting.
    • Maintain and update benefit and wellness content on intranet, external sites, and social media channels; manage Benefits/Wellness Facebook group.
    • Support special projects, maintain the COOP plan for benefits, provide backup to the Benefits Administrator, and participate in committees and meetings as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    Minimum Requirements: Associate’s degree in Office Administration, Business, or a related field Two (2) years of administrative support experience providing benefits-related services in a Human Resources or health-care-related environment. One (1) year of customer service experience, including clerical and/or secretarial experience. Experience can substitute for education. Education can substitute for experience.

    The Senior Benefits Analyst is a key member of the Benefits team, responsible for the administration and compliance of the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP). This role ensures accurate daily operations, supports continuous improvement, and provides expert guidance across the organization.

    What you’ll do:

    • Manage full administration of the 401(k) Plan, including deferral reconciliations, employer match processing, audit support, communications, and compliance.
    • Coordinate Employee Benefits Committee meetings—prepare materials, attend sessions, and complete follow‑up tasks.
    • Oversee ESPP operations, including eligibility, purchases, audits, compliance, and communications.
    • Analyze benefits data to identify trends, ensure accuracy, and recommend enhancements.
    • Lead complex vendor implementations, support RFP processes, and manage smaller vendor programs.
    • Provide education and support to associates, People & Culture, and business partners, including creating clear communications.
    • Support new hire benefit orientations, leave of absence processes, and provide backup administration for other plans.
    • Partner with Workday to validate system configuration and troubleshoot issues.

    What you’ll bring:

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5+ years of benefits experience for a large, multi‑state employer. Strong knowledge of ERISA, ACA, IRS regulations, HIPAA, FMLA, and ADAA. Advanced Excel skills, strong communication, confidentiality, organization, and familiarity with HRIS systems (especially Workday).
